2019 seems to be the year of Gaming phones! With so many Gaming phones being launched at an aggressive price competing with each other, they have started to make sense for buying even for casual usage.
Earlier, Gaming phones were completely focused on Gaming and had a really poor camera and other aspects which might be important for a casual user.
Now Asus has completely changed this forever with their all-new Asus ROG Phone 2 which is a complete package making us doubt if even OnePlus is charging their customers more.
So Yes the Asus ROG Phone 2 is good but how good is it?
The all-new Asus ROG Phone 2 comes with Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC clocked at 2.96Ghz coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage for the base variant whereas the top-end variant comes with 12GB of RAM and 1TB of Internal Storage.
Something to note is that the Variant with 1TB of Internal Storage isn’t available in India as of now!
Adreno 640 is the GPU here.
The device will be running on Android 9.0 Pie with ROG UI on top.
Users can even switch between the Gaming Look and Stock Android Type Clean Look.
And all of this is powered by a large 6000mAh Battery that does last really long.
On the front, there is a 6.59-inches FHD+ AMOLED 120Hz Display with HDR10 Support protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6.
Not only that, there are Dual-Front Firing Speakers too which are among the best speakers on a smartphone.
Whereas on the back, you get to see Dual Camera Setup and ROG Branding which does lit up.
The device is completely made up of Metal and Feels a lot premium with its metal body and unique design which differentiates it from every other smartphone available in the market right now.
Snapdragon 855 Plus
Qualcomm’s latest flagship offering Snapdragon 855 Plus is a 64-Bit Octa-Core Processor with Eight Kryo-485 Cores clocked at 2.96Ghz and built on 7nm Process technology.
This Chipset does support 5G Technology which is yet to be launched in India.
GPU used here is Adreno 640 and does comes with AIE(Artificial Intelligence Engine) Technology.
Qualcomm’s Hexagon 690 Processor is used as DSP(Digital Signal Processor).
A Dual Vertical Camera Setup on the back comes with the same 48-Megapixel Sony IMX 586 with f/1.8 aperture and a 13-Megapixel Ultra-wide lens with f/2.4 aperture.
The device can shoot 4k@60fps thanks to its flagship processor.
For selfies, Asus has included a 24-Megapixel Shooter with an aperture of f/2.2 and can shoot up to 1080p@30fps.
Asus ROG Phone 2 is available for ₹37,999 for the base variant which comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage
There is another variant with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of Internal Storage but that costs ₹59,999.
And We Honestly don’t think that it is worth spending ₹12,000 just for an extra 4GB of RAM. But at the same time, you are even getting an extra 384GB of Internal Storage.
People can buy Asus ROG 2 exclusively on Flipkart anytime they wish to.
OnePlus 7 Pro Killer?
The so-called Flagship Killer is available for ₹48,999 as of now on Amazon.in and comes with a 90Hz AMOLED 2K Display, Snapdragon 855 and an awesome Camera setup which scores an excellent 111 on DxO Mark.
Whereas, Asus ROG Phone 2 comes with a better Snapdragon 855 Plus and almost equivalent camera setup.
Talking about the Display, I would give this to Asus ROG Phone 2.
The Display on OnePlus 7 Pro is Sharper than ROG Phone 2 but the display on Asus Rog Phone 2 is smoother with 120Hz compared to 90Hz on the Oneplus 7 Pro.
Coupled with a 6000mAh battery, Asus Rog 2 should last way too much longer than any OnePlus phone ever.
Something where OnePlus takes the lead away from Asus Rog Phone 2 is UI.
OxygenOS on OnePlus 7 Pro is far better than any other UI available in the market as of now. But that doesn’t mean the UI on Asus Rog Phone 2 is bad, in fact with the option to choose between stock look and gaming feel makes it even better.
